  The American Horse Shows Association announced today that John Crowell III has been appointed as Assistant Director of Eventing and Vaulting.He will take up the position at the head office in Lexington on April 24, 2000.
  
  Donna Rochetti, Assistant Executive Director - Sport Programs, said, " We are looking forward to having John on our staff at an exciting time in the development of our sport programs department."

  Crowell, from Lexington, KY, has worked as three-day-event groom at numerous international events including the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996.He also served as team manager at the 1995 European Championships in Rome, Italy and was barn manager to international event riders David and Karen O'Connor in Virginia.Crowell graduated from Western Michigan University in 1991 with a Bachelor in Business Administration.He joins the AHSA from Ashford Stud, Versailles, KY, where he was Stallion Accounts Manager.
  
  "I'm pretty excited about my appointment and hopefully can bring a lot of experience to the position," said Crowell who is married to international event rider Dorothy Trapp-Crowell.

  CROWELL NAMED NEW AHSA ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR EVENTING AND VAULTING.
  
  The American Horse Shows Association announced on April 24 that John Crowell III is the new assistant director of eventing and vaulting.
  
  Crowell , married to international event rider Dorothy Trapp-Crowell , brings varied experience to the job.He has worked as a three-day-event groom at numerous international events , including the 1996 Olympic Games.He also served as team manager at the 1995 European Championships in Italy and was barn manager to international event riders David and Karen O'Connor.
  
  Crowell has degrees in business administration and veterinary medicine.He joins the AHSA from Ashford Stud , Versailles , Ky. , where he was stallion accounts manger.
  
  A VARIED FAMILY AFFAIR
  
  It's often said that horses run in the family , and the Traurig family exemplified that adage the weekend of April 15-16.Covering varied disciplines on two different coasts , the Traurigs-father Bernie , stepmother Christine , and son Michael-each won an event in their respective sports.
  
  Michael , a steeplechase jockey , scored a win in the $ 25 , 000 Bank of America Sport of Kings Maiden Hurdle race at the Atlanta meet on April 15.
