Crowe inducted into ULM Hall of Fame
    ...
North Louisiana native John David Crowe put the finishing touch on his illustrious football career when he was inducted into the University of Louisiana-Monroe Hall of Fame Saturday.

Crowe first attracted notice when he was playing high school football in Springhill.

Once he left high school he went to Texas A&M, where he really began to attract notice.

This time, he was awarded the Heisman Trophy in 1957 and was named an All-America for his efforts to help bring A&M into national prominence.

The Aggies also won a national championship the same year.

Crowe's coach at A&M was a man who went on to become a legend at the University of Alabama: Paul 'Bear' Bryant.
    ...
Crowe played pro football at Chicago and St. Louis, but it was with the Rams that he set several club records.

He finished his pro football playing career with the San Francisco 49ers.

Crowe coached what was then-Northeast Louisiana University for five years from 1975-1980.

He was a near-unanimous choice for the Louisiana Coach of the Year title in 1980 when he posted a 7-4 record at NLU.

Crowe was also only the second Heisman Trophy winner to be a collegiate head coach at the time.

During his tenure as athletic director, Crowe was instrumental in the construction of the Malone Stadium and the ULM Baseball complex.
