   The accelerating pace of construction in Abilene has made good hands harder to come by, said John Crowe, vice president and general manager of the Crowe Group. "I've had a labor shortage for eight years," Crowe said.

   The Crowe Group Inc., formerly John Crowe and Associates, has worked on jet hangars, dining halls and renovated dormitory rooms at Dyess. Crowe said he has worked at Dyess since opening his business 20 years ago.
   
   "From 1984 to 2001, it was 85 to 90 percent of my business," he said.
