   Edward Crowe, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Elk Regional Health System, said approximately 15 individuals were pre-screened for the position; later that number was narrowed to seven.

   Crowe officially announced the appointment on August 11. The following day Berlucchi was contacted and upon accepting the position he began his new duties as President/CEO at Elk Regional on Aug. 30.
   
   "Committee members were very diligent," said Crowe. "It was a very good learning process as no members of the committee have gone through this process before."
   
   Crowe added there was a reverse selling type process the committee enacted. He explained that although the candidate wants the job, it is important to sell the community to the candidate as well.

   Crowe said that Berlucchi's enthusiasm, experience and ability to capture the whole picture also played a key factor in his hiring.
   
   "This hospital is a tremendous asset to the community. A common goal is to be caretakers of assets so the next generation can look back on the facility with pride and ownership. It is our responsibility to turn it over to the next generation far better than when we got it," said Crowe.
   
   When asked what changes Berlucchi has in store for ERHC he replied "it is necessary the facility is built on the strong foundation that ERHC already has. With that it is important to remember that change is constant in healthcare, from legislation, healthcare regulations, dealing with aging demographics, malpractice reform, etc." He continued, "I am looking forward to working with the staff to bring a united mission through a consensus building process that will bring back strength to the facility and work to get towards that common goal.
