Now, the local business is adding a new customer, a private company that provides prescription plans for Medicaid and Medicare, said Bob Crowder, who became operations director at Sitel earlier this year. That contract means the company will need to hire about 200 full and part-time workers in the coming weeks.

The company also will need to hire about 120 more people to fill spots created by more business from its existing wireless customer. The expanded business, Crowder said, came after Longview's Sitel won customer satisfaction awards from the wireless provider.

"This has been a really good time for us," Crowder said.

"The thing we're excited about is all the jobs," he added later.
    ...
And the new jobs for the prescription plan provider are a rare type among call center jobs, Crowder said. First, he said Sitel's contract with the company is for three years, " a lifetime" in the call center business. The work schedules also are different from typical call center jobs, with shifts available from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. instead of the usual 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day of the week.

At the same time, though, the call center is looking for a specific type of person to fill those jobs.

A number of changes have been made to Medicare and Medicaid, Crowder said, and the prescription plan provider is sending notices to its customers about those changes. The Sitel employees hired under the contract with that company will be taking calls from people who receive those letters and have questions. The callers will be people who are on Medicaid and Medicare, generally older people.

"This is very customer-service oriented," Crowder said.
    ...
Employees for this customer must be available for three weeks of full-time training starting Sept. 12, Crowder said, and they will begin taking calls Oct. 3.
