The fear is that children who weren't vaccinated following Wakefield's comments are now approaching secondary school age and may well get measles, for example on holiday in Thailand or even in Italy, where it's common.'
   
   MMR's defenders admit that significant numbers of parents are still apprehensive. 'Confidence was shaken,' concedes Crowcroft.
