   As news editor and the newspaper's top design editor, Melinda led a five-person news desk that is the backbone of the morning newspaper. She directed efforts with editors in Sports and Features to redesign sections and create new pages. In Sports, she designed the Outdoors and Recreation pages, helped develop the new College Tuesday sports page and helped redesign the High School Thursday page. In Features, she redesigned and reorganized Ticket, the weekend section, to broaden its appeal to younger readers. Melinda and a handful of others produced the blizzard editions last December when 30 inches of snow shut down the county for several days. In July, she led the coverage plan for the 150th anniversary of the women's rights movement in Seneca Falls. Her work, including a section on breast cancer, has received Best of Gannett recognition and New York State AP awards.
