BULLHEAD CITY -- If members of the school board at Mohave Valley Elementary School District were looking for a curriculum director who would stick around, it is likely they found him in Whitney Crow, who has been employed with the Mohave Valley school district for his entire career.
    ...
Crow, who was named district curriculum director, Feb. 12, will work under Phil Sauceman, who has been serving as both curriculum director and assistant superintendent.
    ...
Crow's first teaching job was at Fort Mojave Elementary School. He started there the year the school opened 16 years ago and has worked in the school district since then, working his way from fourth grade teacher to assistant principal and is currently principal of Mohave Valley Elementary School.

Mohave Valley Elementary was "under improvement" during the 2002-2003 school year with the federal Title I program. This year, under the leadership of Crow, the school was taken off of improvement, due to attendance and improved test scores. Grasso said the board felt Crow was very qualified to handle district curriculum, because of his positive experience with school improvement and No Child Left Behind.
    ...
While Crow said he entered in to the field of elementary education because he loved working with children, he said the more he learned about educational leadership, the more he felt drawn to it.
    ...
Crow is a life-long resident of the area. He started his own school years at Mountain View School (then Bullhead City School) in first grade, went to Bullhead City Junior High and graduated from Mohave High School in the early '80s.

Crow attended Arizona State University and played alto saxophone in the college marching band.

"It was just something I did for fun. I got to go to the Rose Bowl and march in the Rose Parade and of course, you get into all the college football games free," he said.

Shortly after he began playing at football games in Sun Devil Stadium, Crow said he was asked what he thought of it. He remembers thinking, "My whole town wouldn't fill the top section. My whole county would fit in here."

Crow said he met his wife Cristy in the marching band at ASU. She works as the human resource manager at the Ramada Express. Cristy and Whitney have two daughters who attend elementary school in Fort Mojave.

Crow is in the process of finishing his doctorate degree in education. His dissertation will be on school secretaries.
