   We are pleased to announce that Barbara Crouch , EG's Inland Empire Regional Manager , was selected as A Woman of Distinction by the Business Press for 1998. The prominent award is given each year to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in the Inland Empire Business Community. Ms. Crouch has been a dynamic part of EG's team for over 18 years and has provided education and advice to the personnel departments of local companies for 25 years. She's been called one of the most influential people in the Inland Empire.
   
   Barbara founded the Inland Empire Industrial Relations and Research Association and served on the Advisory Board of the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center. She is listed in Who's Who of the West , Who's Who of American Women and the International Who's Who of Women. In addition , Barbara is frequently interviewed by Inland Empire media outlets and regularly writes technical articles for local business periodicals , and is featured bi-weekly as a guest speaker on the Money Radio program.
   
   Barbara was honored at a luncheon held at the Ontario Convention Center , which was attended by over 700 business and civic leaders.

   Barbara Lee Crouch of Barbara Lee Crouch & Associates is a leading human resource consultant and management education trainer for industry. Ms. Crouch has over 25 years of generalist experience in human resource management. She has a highly diverse background in industry encompassing manufacturing, food processing and retail operations. She has directed personnel departments for companies with as few as one hundred employees to large companies with over 3,000 workers.
   
   She retired from the Employers Group after 21 years as the Inland Empire Regional Manager and Senior Staff Consultant. Not long after she retired she formed her own firm Barbara Lee Crouch & Associates and is a human resource consultant trainer to major companies.
   
   She is a frequent speaker (over 25 speeches per year) and Inland Empire newspapers, radio and TV Talkshows have constantly interviewed her. In addition, she provides technical articles for business journals in the areas of human resource management and writes a monthly article and coordinates the publication of the annual Human Resources Guide for the Inland Empire Business Journal.
   
   She is on the board of the Inland Empire Business Journal, the Inland Empire Industrial Relations Research Association (a group she helped get started.) She has also served on the boards of the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center and on various advisory and educational groups. She also is an advisor to University of California Riverside (UCR) Extension for their Human Resource Legal Certificate Program for advanced human resource professionals. She also serves on the Riverside Mayors steering committee to coordinate Riversides four higher institutes of learning with the work force, education and research needs of the business community. She also guests lectures for UCR, University of Redlands, Cal Poly and Riverside Community College. In addition, she worked with UCR's Extension Center in training several groups of Russians in how to operate not-for-profit associations.
   
   Ms Crouch is listed in Who's Who of the West, Who's Who of American Women and the International Who's Who of Women. In 1991 she was recognized as one of the most influential women in the Inland Empire and in 1996 the Inland Empire Business Press recognized her as a Women of Distinction.
   
   Barbara Lee Crouch -who was a former competitive roller skater, skating costume designer and seamstress to Las Vegas Showgirls - has come a long way to become one of the Inland Empire's most influential human resource experts.

   Barbara Lee Crouch, who runs the Inland Empire human resources consulting firm Barbara Lee Crouch and Associates, said that almost 30 years after the publication of the landmark book "The Peter Principle," companies are still promoting people to their levels of incompetence.
   
   "When I've gotten calls through the years that supervisors are that way, my recommendation is training on how to be a supervisor," said Crouch, who recently retired as Inland Empire manager of The Employer's Group. "Many don't come by it naturally, and it doesn't always work."
   
   Many supervisors are promoted to their positions because they are productive workers, and Crouch said she encounters two different types of supervisor, the manager and the leader.
