For the past 16 months, Crotty has served as the executive director of PIRA and varsity men's coach of the Mercer Junior Rowing Club. Last spring, in just its second full year of existence, the Mercer Junior Rowing Club's varsity eight captured fourth place at the USRowing Youth Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. Before coming to PIRA, Crotty served as the director and head coach of the Loyola Academy Rowing Association in Wilmette, Ill. In 2003, the Loyola men's senior four won the 69th Scholastic National Regatta in Camden, N.J.
Crotty is a 1998 graduate of Princeton University and 1994 graduate of Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y. Crotty was a member of Princeton crews that won the freshman eight at the 1995 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships, the varsity eight at the 1996 and 1998 IRA Championships, and the varsity eight at the 1997 Eastern Sprints. While at Canisius, Crotty stroked the senior four to a Scholastic National Regatta championship.
Crotty was a long-time member of the United States National Team. He was part of the junior men's eight that won a bronze medal at the 1993 Junior World Championships, and he made the eight again in 1994. In 1995, Crotty won a bronze medal in the eight at the Under-23 World Championships, and in 1997, he won a silver medal in the same event. As a member of the senior national team, Crotty was a part of the four with coxswain in 1997 and 1998, twice finishing fourth, and a member of the silver-medal winning men's four at the 1999 Pan American Games.
