   Judith Croton, Principal Adviser (PQ) for CCETSW, explains that in updating training they were very aware of the increasing importance of inter-professional working and the broadening range of organisations - including health agencies - within which mental health social work occurs. Consequently, she believes that this aspect of training will be valid until at least 2004, and is unlikely to conflict significantly with the thrust of policy contained within the White Paper.
   
   But, she adds, there is already a 'yawning gap' in post-qualifying training, for example to enable ASWs to work more effectively with clients with dual diagnoses or children with mental health problems. As the consequences of some of the White Paper's proposals also point in this direction, there is likely to be a push for more PQ training.
   
   So, paradoxically, standards are likely to be raised for ASW training and professional development, at the very time when non-ASWs are to be brought in to carry out this role. Quite how this circle is to be squared remains a mystery.
