   Dominic Crosthwaite, co-managing director of Cantor Spreadfair, a spread betting exchange, has seen "unprecedented" trading volumes in the group's housing market products. "We have seen over £8m traded in the December contract alone. This is five times the equivalent in 2006."
   
   Spreadfair allows clients to take long and short bets against each other on house price movements until 2010.
   
   Mr Crosthwaite says interest has been driven by clients closing out of long positions they had held over the recent property boom, and also new entrants who are bearish on retail property.
