Rev. Crossman was born in Toledo, Ohio. He was sales executive for Yardley of London ranking as one of the top 10 salesman for five years. He earned his bachelor's degree from Wabash College, where he played football. He attended Harvard Business School and later earned his master of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Atlanta. Rev. Crossman was founding executive director of Specialized Urban Ministries in Broward County and served as pastor in several Central Florida Methodist churches until his retirement in 1995.
At the Florida United Methodist conference, Rev. Crossman served as chairman of the committee on Disaster Relief. He served as president of Lay/Clergy Advisory Committee and was vice-chairman of the Religion & Race Committee at Bethune-Cookman College during the early 1990's.
