At a public meeting held on Wednesday, 60 people crowded into Compton Village Hall to meet Karl Crossman, chief executive of FDM Broadband. Crossman said his company could have a wireless broadband connection installed within as little as thirty days if just fifty households or businesses agreed to sign up.
Crossman's Hungerford-based Internet service provider has been leading the race to bring high-speed Internet access to rural communities that fixed-line providers consider uneconomical to supply. FDM has already brought broadband to six villages in Berkshire and Wiltshire at prices comparable to those of conventional providers.
Residents quizzed Crossman on technical aspects of FDM's wireless service. He assured them that they would need only small antennae , not large television-style satellite dishes , to receive FDM's service. -
