   Alan Crossley, managing director of the Limerick-based Mowlam Group, believes the increase in the number of homes will improve standards.

   "The more homes there are, themorecompetition there will be and the service will get better and the quality of homes will rise" said Crossley.

   However, Crossley said some of the Mowlam Group's homes can afford to charge less. He said the group's nursing home in Moycullen charged €450 per bed per week.
