Tucker began diving on shipwrecks in the late 1940s and has discovered more than 100 shipwrecks in Bermuda waters, including the treasure ship San Pedro, which contained the famous gold and emerald Tucker Cross. He has taught and consulted on marine archaeology for more than 50 years and was the owner and primary supplier for the Maritime Museum in Hamilton, Bermuda.
In 1983, Tucker founded the Beebe Project, a worldwide program to discover and study deep-ocean animals using submersibles and specially designed underwater camera systems. He went on to work with the deep-water equipment used in the filming of the IMAX presentation, "Titanica." In 1996-1997, he worked with National Geographic in the Marshall Islands and New Zealand.
