At the Monday night rehearsal, Reunion Chairman Bob Johnson presents Kirk Cross with a plaque of recognition for his 25th and last year of handling Reunion Pre-Registration.
...
The 1999 TBDBITL Reunion was the 25th and last year that Kirk Cross would be handling pre-registration for TBDBITL's reunion.
You all know Kirk.He is the guy who has always sent that very carefully worded letter in your reunion registration mailing that told you exactly what was happening, when it was happening, how you could be a part of it and, of course, the few measly dollars it would all cost.He is also the guy (with the aid of his 'family staff') that would (with great effort) correctly process your late, illegible, incomplete and inaccurately funded reunion registration and get you a spot in the band block. Finally, a t the rehearsals before the reunion, Kirk and his volunteer staff would have ready and waiting for you a nice tidy folder with all the necessary music, charts, tickets, etc. to get you through the shows, the game and other festivities.
The thoroughness and long-term success of his pre-registration process is a modern TBDBITL legend. We will miss his organizational talent in this area and the infinite patience he has demonstrated with those members who will always be 'fill-in-the-form challenged.'
Fortunately for TBDBITL, Kirk will continue as the Treasurer for the TBDBITL Alumni Club Board of Governors where he struggles mightily (but successfully) to keep the Board on the straight and narrow path of financial solvency.
To commemorate Kirk's great contribution to pre-registration Reunion Chairman Bob Johnson recognized Kirk at the Active/Reunion Band Rehearsal on Monday, September 13, with a plaque for his service to TBDBITL and the following presentation:
...
Tonight, we are honoring one of our own, Kirk Cross, for loyalty and service far beyond the call of duty.As chairman of the Ohio State University Alumni Band Reunion, it is my pleasure to be able to do this honor.
For 25 years, Kirk has handled Pre-Registration for the reunion. His information and organization have made an indelible mark. He, more than any other member of the Reunion Committee, represents the heart and soul of the reunion.Kirk has set a standard for all of us, and by our acceptance, we have created the College Marching Band Reunion that is the envy of the college band world.
Since I have been Reunion Chairman, band alumni from other universities have asked, "How do you do it?"My answer has been, "A few people started this and did not give up until it was working. That's all you need."Kirk has been the one person, who by his dedication and perseverance, has been a constant in his work.As chairman, I know that were it not for Kirk, I would have an extremely difficult time getting done without his help.He has been my right hand, and sometimes my left hand, too.
It is with great thanks and appreciation that I present this token of our appreciation to Kirk Cross for service and dedication to alma mater and to TBDBITL.Thank you, Kirk.
