The first Artapalooza raised money to expand after-school arts programming for children, Nyack Center Executive Director Kim Cross said.

Cross said recent studies show extracurricular activities are the most important factor in a child's academic performance.

"It really makes the case for having after-school programs and what a significant effect it has on a child's academic success," she said.

"The evening will be an uplifting and exciting celebration of African-Americans, past and present, through song and dance and spoken word," said Kim Cross, executive director of the Nyack Center.

"This is one of the most special events we do here in Nyack," said Kim Cross, the Nyack Center's executive director.
