Alan Crompton, a Barnes Kavelle director, says: ‘Candidates had fallen down at the assessment centre because they lacked the soft skills needed to underpin the roles.The challenge lay in clarifying this skill set and expressing it somehow in the initial search and selection processes.' To this end, Alan set about the following initiatives:
Exhaustively reviewed with BAA the key reasons for candidate failure.Sat in on one of the ongoing assessment centres to understand the demands and pressures that candidates would face.Met with incumbent Gatwick managers who already had the required BAA soft-skills set (in this case they included emotional intelligence, a strong coaching style, and the ability to engage and motivate people) so he could understand the BAA model of excellence.
