Oliver Crichton was selected to take part in this prestigious end of season tournament at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes, and acquitted himself very well.In his first match he played European number 1, Chris Adcock, losing 8-15, 1-15.His second match he beat William Simpson 11-15, 15-11, 15-10.In the doubles Oliver and partner, Tom Rowley, finished 4th out of 4 pairs but succeeded in taking a game off runners up, Nigel Tao and Robert Hird.

Oliver Crichton today won the South West restricted U15 Championships at Melksham in both boys' singles and boys' doubles with Tom Rowley of Devon.

Ian Stubbs and Tom Ackland were losing finalists in the boys' doubles, losing to Oliver Crichton and Tom Rowley 15-13, 15-5.

Yesterday, April 24th, Oliver Crichton, Laura Newman and Sian Stump represented Somerset at the Warwick Rising Stars tournament which this year was held at Market Drayton.

Oliver Crichton did manage to get out of his box but then came up against one of the top ranked U17 players, Handal Suryaputra, and lost 6-21.He did, however, have a good win over Richard Collier 21-20.Handal was also Oliver's nemesis in the doubles where Oliver and Tom Rowley (Devon) were beaten by Handal and Tom Burton.

Oliver Crichton today heard that he has been selected as one of just six boys to contest the Grand Final of the U15 Junior Challenger Select series of tournaments.This event is by invitation only and a measure of his achievement in being invited is that every other boy is a current member of the England team and a winner of the European team gold medal.So, Oliver is competing against the very best in Europe.Our congratulations to Oliver and his parents along with the very best of luck in the tournament which will be held at Milton Keynes on May 29th.

Oliver Crichton was Somerset's only representative at this top class tournament and he acquitted himself very well against the top players from England and Scotland.He started by beating England player Matthew Johnson 15-10, 15-13 and followed this by taking 12 and 9 off another England player, Robert Hird.In the doubles Oliver and partner, Tom Rowley of Devon, took 5 and 2 off European number one, Chris Adcock, and his partner, Paul Schuller, before beating Crabb and Donnelly 15-2, 15-3 amd then Mercer and Thomson 15-6, 15-8.

Oliver Crichton has been competing at the 27th Kembit International Youth Tournament 2003 in Holland during the last few days of 2003.This is a prestigious tournament with players from all over Europe.Oliver was one of a small number of English players competing in the U15 boys' singles, level and mixed doubles.Oliver and partner, Joe Griffiths from Gloucester, reached the quarter-final stage of the level doubles.

At the Junior Challenger South, held at Farnborough this weekend (1.11.2003), Oliver Crichton won gold in the Level 2 boys' singles, beating Ben Tier 15-2, 15-8, and then gold again in the main boys' doubles with partner Tom Rowley of Devon.

On Saturday September 13th Oliver Crichton travelled to Liverpool for their open competition in Kirkby Sports Centre.This tournament was one of the first graded under the new BAoE rules with Levels 2, 3 & 4.Oliver was playing in the Level 2 competion which was strongly contested by a good entry of players, many of whom are on the World Class programme.
Playing best of three games to 15, Oliver only dropped one game to win his box before facing a tough semi-final against Ross Little.

Having already played nine games, Oliver started a little tired and lost the first game but rallied well to take the next two and progress to the final which was held over to the next day.
In the final itself Oliver started the match against Arthur Cheung of Buckinghamshire in fine form to take the first game 15-13 but then faded to lose the next two and the match.

Many congratulations to Oliver Crichton on being graded at the new Level 2.This is the equivalent of the old Premier Grade.Level 1 consists of just 7 boys who are all part of the England Squad, Level 3 is the old Intermediate and Standard grades combined, with an additional Level 4 for those who are just starting on the tournament circuit.Oliver is therefore rated one of the best 50 boys in the country, a great achievement.
