When KSLA News 12 contacted Fire Chief Brian Crawford, he told KSLA News 12 he was not aware of any drill.

Fire chief Brian Crawford says this is Shreveport's sixth fire death of the year.

He says in both 2006 and 2007, Shreveport didn't have any people die in fires. The increase in fire deaths has prompted Chief Crawford to create a fire safety task force.

After putting out the fire and searching through the ruins, firefighters found the woman on a couch in the livingroom, according to Fire Chief Brian Crawford.

The neighbors also told firefighters the last time they saw the woman she was on the couch, smoking a cigarette.

Crawford said investigators will look at the smoking materials as a possible cause of the fire.

Initial reports were that there possibly were two people inside the home. But Crawford said firefighters later learned that the woman's husband works offshore and was not home at the time.

He said the husband has been notified about the death.
