    Martha graduated in 1940 from University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in science, and then initiated a career in teaching home economics and English. Martha touched everyone near her with her enthusiasm for life.She was an inspiration for many who "wanted to be like her at her age."She started running as a hobby at age 70, and participated in the Big Sur 5K run every year until age 86, usually winning her age group. Volunteering consumed much of her time and included the Corralitos Women's Club (three term president,) the Breast Care Center of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula , as well as the Monarch Grove Sanctuary, part of the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.Her love of community drew her to serve on every committee at Canterbury Woods.Martha will be greatly missed by friends, family and everyone whose life she touched.
