Robert Cox
Professor Emeritus Robert Cox has taught in schools in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Kentucky throughout his career.Cox first taught printing, photography and journalism at Labette County Community High School in Altamont, Kan., in 1955.In 1956 he taught printing at Chanute High School and Junior College in Chanute, Kan., where he remained for nine years.
Cox became the chairperson of the Department of Industrial Technology at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., after serving a number of years teaching graphic arts, photography, and teacher education courses.He taught at Southeast Missouri State University from 1964 until 1991.He also established and operated University Printing Services at SMSU.
In 1994, Cox served as a visiting professor at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.From 1996 until 2000, he was an adjunct faculty member at Murray State University in Murray, Ky.
Some of Cox's awards include an Outstanding Young Teacher Award from the Chanute, Kan., Public Schools; the Distinguished Service Award from the Industrial Arts Association of Missouri; the Elmer Voigt Award from the Educational Council of Printing Industries of America and the Fred J. Hartman Award, the Lifetime Membership Award and the Frederick Kagy Life Achievement Award from the International Graphic Arts Education Association.He is listed in "Who's Who in American Education."
Cox is a life member of Pittsburg State University Alumni Association, a past president and a current vice president of the International Graphic Arts Education Association, a member of the president's council of the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation, the president of the Southeast Missouri State University Emeriti Association and others.
Cox graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a major in industrial education in 1955 and a Master of Science degree with a major in industrial education in 1961, both from PSU.He received a doctorate in vocational education in 1970 from the University of Arkansas.Cox lives in Cape Girardeau, Mo., with his wife, Betty.
