   Via Christi Charitable Foundation director Sandy Gearhart has announced that David Cotter has joined the organization as the grants coordinator.

Cotter has extensive experience in fund-raising and grant writing for religious organizations including The College of Saint Thomas More in Fort Worth, Texas and most recently the Legionaries of Christ in Hamden, Conn.

   During a time when federal assistance programs were being reduced, Cotter suggested that Senator Inhofe's office become a center of information about alternative funding for Oklahomans.

   Constituents would contact the Senator's office about funding needs and Cotter would then research available grants and other sources of funding and communicate that information to the constituent. The idea was unique among Senators and began Cotter's interest in the field of philanthropy.
   
   Cotter has served as a board member of the American Fundraising Professionals (formerly NSFRE) Fort Worth Chapter. His main objective at Via Christi will be to support the vision, mission and growth by writing grants for various programs and administer the grant once it is received. He will also spend time educating Via Christi employees about grants.
   
   "A lot of people don't know which grants are available," Cotter said. "I think a lot of my work will be researching grants, educating people here at the medical center about them, and working with staff to pursue the grant."
   
   Cotter and his wife, Jeanette, have been married for nearly two years.
   
   The Via Christi Charitable Foundation was incorporated in 1997 to advance the mission of Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center by raising funds for support of programs, projects and services operated by the medical center.
