Students were taking part in a cricket coaching clinic, led by Andy Cottam from the Western Australian Cricket Association.

Cottam said he emailed schools across the South West several weeks ago offering coaching clinics.

He said no-one from the WACA had travelled to Boyup for a clinic before so he was delighted when the school accepted his offer.

As well as offering coaching at both the primary and secondary campuses, Cottam also stayed after school to coach the town's junior cricket team.

He said events like the Ashes series was a great promotion of the sport for children.

There had been a huge increase in the numbers of English children taking up the sport after England won the Ashes trophy 18 months ago.

Mr Cottam was a county cricket player in England and toured with the country's youth team.

He moved to Australia 14 months ago to take up a development squad position with the WACA.

He will return to Boyup Brook later this month to run a second clinic with students.
