   (Ropes & Gray is pleased to announce that Erik H. Corwin has joined the firm's Tax & Benefits Department as a partner.Corwin's practice will be based in the firm's office in Washington, D.C.
   
   Corwin comes to Ropes & Gray from Wilmer Hale, where he was a partner.He specializes in issues relating to the taxation of domestic and international mergers and acquisitions , regulated investment companies, private equity transactions, and bankruptcies, among others.

   Corwin is active in the American Bar Association, for which he is a Vice Chair of the Tax Section's Committee on Corporate Tax.He is also a member of the Taxation Section of the District of Columbia Bar.
   
   Corwin is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review.

   Erik H. Corwin specializes in federal income tax law , with an emphasis on planning domestic and international business transactions.
   
   Mr. Corwin has advised clients on a broad range of tax issues , including tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions , dispositions , financings , and joint ventures.His practice includes assisting private equity funds and other clients in developing tax-efficient structures for cross-border investments.Mr. Corwin also has extensive experience with tax aspects of corporate restructurings , both in and out of bankruptcy.
   
   Mr. Corwin is a graduate of Harvard University ( A.B. , 1985 , magna cum laude ; A.M. , 1988 ) and Harvard Law School ( J.D. , 1992 , magna cum laude ) , where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.Following his graduation from law school , he clerked for Judge James L. Buckley on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
   
   Mr. Corwin serves as chairman of the Subcommittee on Legislative Developments of the American Bar Association Tax Section's Committee on Corporate Tax.
