ELIZABETH CORWIN, 1918-2002 Nature lover was active in civic, charity groups
PETERBOROUGH, N.H. - Elizabeth Corwin, 84, formerly of Perrysburg Township and a volunteer leader in Toledo area civic, charitable, and environmental groups, died March 1 of emphysema in RiverMead, an assisted-care facili|ty where she'd lived six years.
Her concern with saving farm|land and wild spaces led to a role, through the mid-1990s, in the Black Swamp Conservancy. She was a charter member of the Friends of Wood County Parks.
Earlier she was a president of the board of Sunset House and a co-chairman of the United Way's metropolitan division. She was a former president of the Wood County League of Women Voters and a former president of the Toledo Bar Association auxiliary. "She was a very sharp, very directed person," her son, Swift Corwin, Jr., said.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., she was a graduate of the University of Michigan. When her brother-in-law died, she took in his son, Rex Corwin, and raised him as part of her family, her son, Swift, Jr., said.
Her husband, Swift, died March 30, 1991.
