The new Houchens will carry convenience items, but will have more of a grocery section than a standard convenience store, said Allen Corum, special projects manager for Houchens Industries. -

"We have been working on this project for more than two years," said Allen Corum, Houchens' special projects coordinator.
The proposed store would be a 10,000-square-foot "crossroads market," blending a convenience store with gas pumps in front with a supermarket, including fresh meat and produce, in a building about half or two-thirds the size of a regular Houchens Market.

"This is the first, we hope, of a very successful series of stores that we would like to put in communities in Warren County and surrounding areas," Corum said.
When Houchens held a community meeting in Rockfield on Feb. 11 to discuss the store, about 20 people showed up, none opposed, Corum said - and the most frequent requests were for job applications.
The location, across from Rockfield Elementary School, has no sewer service. Across the street is a Jr. Food Store, also owned by Houchens, which would probably be closed when the new store opens.
At least initially, the new store would be open limited hours, probably from 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. or noon, Corum said.
