   SAN FRANCISCO, April 12, 2006 , Mellon Financial Corporation announced that John Cortis has been appointed regional president of Northern California for its Private Wealth Management group, responsible for leading the group's sales, portfolio management, and private banking efforts throughout the region.
   
   Formerly regional president of Washington, the move marks Cortis' return to California, where he was managing director of sales before moving to Seattle in 2000. Mellon's Private Wealth Management group employs 25 professionals in its San Francisco office, with more than $900 million in locally based client assets. Cortis is based in San Francisco and reports to executive director David Holst.

   Cortis has more than 25 years' investment and wealth management experience, including 12 with Mellon. He led Mellon's expansion into the Northwest when it acquired The Trust Company of Washington, and he grew client assets to more than $1 billion. Before joining Mellon, he was executive vice president for Bank of San Francisco, managing their private banking group. Cortis is active in the community, recently serving as a trustee of several Seattle-area art organizations. He received his bachelor's degree from Loyola College of Maryland and an MBA from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.

   Rye , N.Y. ( HedgeWorld.com ) -Looking to court capital in the technology-enriched environs surrounding Seattle and beyond , Mellon Private Asset Management Tuesday named Jack Cortis head of its new Pacific Northwest regional office.
   
   Mr. Cortis formerly was regional sales manager for Mellon Private Asset Management in Northern California. Prior to joining Mellon in 1994 , Mr. Cortis was an executive vice president of the Bank of San Francisco , where he managed the private banking group.
   
   His appointment follows on the tail of the Mellon's recent acquisition of the Trust Co. of Washington , a regional private-wealth management firm with offices in Seattle and Tacoma. Mr. Cortis' duties will extend beyond Washington and will include much of the bank's West Coast expansion efforts.
   
   Over the last 18 months , Mellon's $ 95 billion private-banking wing has been rapidly building up its private-client services , adding a number of regional hubs , including one in Denver. The private asset-management division operates more than 20 offices across the United States. Seven of those offices were opened this year , and more are likely to start up in 2001 , a spokeswoman said.
