Indiana (Pa.) volleyball coach Carmine Cortazzo announced his retirement following eight successful seasons. Cortazzo led IUP to a 185-86 record, and the Indians won at least 24 matches and qualified for the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament each of the past six years. Upon taking over the program in 1998, he produced several all-conference and all-region performers, including three-time PSAC West Player of the Year and two-time All-American Laura Hall. Cortazzo himself was honored as the PSAC West Coach of the Year in 2001 and '02, and he was the American Volleyball Coaches Association Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2001, '02 and '03. Cortazzo will remain at IUP as an assistant professor in the department of health and physical education.
Two nights before the St. Francis men's basketball team begins playing the heart of its Northeast Conference schedule, it lost starting center J.R. Enright because of a foot injury. Enright, who had started all 11 games this season, suffered a Jones Fracture to the left foot during the team's practice Tuesday evening. He will miss 6-to-8 weeks with the injury. -
