Founded in 1963 by Abe Corson, Brookdale Plastics was the Twin City area's first exclusive vacuum forming company.Corson, with no prior experience in thermoforming, began by making signs and producing skin packaging before adding blister packaging to his company's capabilities in the mid-sixties.
Corson's ability to grasp new ideas quickly and recognize opportunities as they arose added to his growing experience in the industry. With only two thermoforming machines, a single desk and chair, two phone lines and cardboard filing cabinets, Corson and a sole employee were able to produce annual sales in excess of $100,000 while building a company of loyal customers including Lund boats, Brown & Bigelow, and even the US Army.
The company's earnings grew at an even pace until the early 1980s when Corson signed a contract with Control Data Corporation to produce a static-dissipative, crush-resistant container for shipping of various computer components.
