Stephen John Corsini
...
Archaeologist Stephen Corsini completed a BA (Hons) degree from UWA in November 1989, and was employed by the WA Museum, Department of Aboriginal Sites and then by the Aboriginal Affairs Department, from November 1992 to September 1995, as Senior Heritage Officer. As a DAS/AAD Officer he conducted field recording of ethnographic and archaeological sites with Aboriginal elders in the Goldfields, Southwest and Murchison regions. He also provided advice to developers regarding their obligations under the WA Aboriginal Heritage Act, 1972, and advised Aboriginal groups on heritage management and protection. He was involved with the assessment of archaeological consultant's reports for the Aboriginal Cultural Materials Committee, investigated allegations of damage to sites and contributed to the development of the DAS "Guidelines for Aboriginal Heritage Assessment". SJC Heritage Consultants are thus fully conversant with the relevant State and Federal heritage protection legislation, and the processes for applying for relevant Ministerial consent.
Prior to undertaking University study, Stephen was employed in mineral exploration, and so has a good understanding of the mining industry. Stephen's degree concentrated on archaeology but included units in anthropology and history. His honours thesis involved an analysis of stone spear point manufacturing sites on High Cliffy Island off the northwest Kimberley and has studied Nyungar burial sites and stone working technology in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. He has participated in several excavations including the Willigulli art site, near Northampton (Dr Madge Schwede), Marrinup POW Camp, Dwellingup (Dr Ian Lilley) and at Katumpul rockshelter, Leinster (Dr Sue O'Connor). Stephen has extensive experience in excavating human skeletal material for the Aboriginal Affairs Department at several sites in Busselton and at Capel, Australind, Quobba and Ningaloo.
Stephen is the WA State Delegate of the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists (AACA) and is also currently the Secretary of the Australasian Association of Professional and Consulting Anthropologists and Archaeologists (AAPCAA). -
