David Corser, programs director for the Planada Community Development Corporation, plays scrabble Tuesday afternoon with children from Planada Elementary School. The after-school program may be evicted from the Planada Community Center.

A $20,000 facilities grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture also provided the corporation with furniture, CDC Programs Director David Corser said.

If the CDC has to move out, Corser said, he doesn't know how or where to relocate all the equipment.
    ...
But Corser said that's not true.

Corser and Strength agreed that years ago -- exactly when is unknown -- the Planada CDC paid $100 monthly to CAA, plus a third of the utility bills, which totaled about $30.

Corser said it was his understanding that the money included enough to cover rent and utilities. But, he continued, he doesn't know a lot of the specifics because his organization's board treasurer handled the finances.

PLANADA -- About 9 p.m. on Thursday night, David Corser rode his bicycle to the Planada Community Center to turn on the alarm.

Having worked as the program director for the Planada Community Development Corp. for the past two years, Corser often locked up at night.

But this time, he ended up handcuffed in the back of a sheriff's vehicle.

Corser was arrested on suspicion of illegal entry and resisting an officer with force. The sheriff's department said it was told he had been fired Thursday, refused to turn in the keys and was not permitted on the premises.

Meanwhile, Corser, who posted $1,600 bail and was released from county jail Friday, said he doesn't know why he's facing the misdemeanor and felony charges.

    He denied being fired.

    He also denied resisting arrest.

Monday, Corser went back to work at the center, where he helped with an after-school program running this summer for dozens of children, who are referred there for extra help with school work.

Deputies showed up, but Corser had already left for the day.

Gonzales declined late Monday to explain why he fired Corser, but said the CDC board will meet later this week and could reverse his decision.

Corser, however, said he was never fired.
    ...
Thursday's report says the sheriff's department had been asked to provide extra patrols in the area of the community center, because Corser's employment had been terminated and he still had keys to the building. The person who asked for the extra patrols was not identified.

A deputy responded to the center after a Sheriff's Department volunteer reported seeing someone inside after hours.

According to the deputy's report, Corser refused to provide identification. The deputy then tried to handcuff him.

"Corser began to resist and a struggle ensued," the deputy wrote.

During the struggle, the volunteer was knocked to the ground, and both Corser and the deputy fell on top of him, the report states.

Corser denied those allegations, and claimed he was the one knocked to the ground and injured. The report says Corser had scrapes on his right knee and right shoulder. It also notes that the deputy had a scrape on his right arm.

Corser said he went back to work Monday because he still hadn't been fired, and said he will keep going to work until he's officially dismissed.

His arraignment is scheduled for July 17.
