An artist since the age of ten, Lese Corrigan is primarily an oil painter, but works in several other media including linocuts, photography and clay sculpture. Her work is a balance between representation and abstraction highlighted by color and texture. The paintings are reminiscent of those of van Gogh, Monet, Vuillard and Bonnard as well as the fauvists and the expressionists. A native Charlestonian, Corrigan complemented her liberal arts degree from Loyola College in Maryland with two years of graduate studies in France. Primarily a self taught artist, she did study under E. de May Smith at Ashley Hall and the tutelage of the Charleston Renaissance artists by breathing the same pluff mud perfumed air. The French masters influence her during her long studies of the language. She has been an instructor at the Gibbes School of Art for seventeen years and was the 2003 Charleston Cup Steeplechase poster artist. Her work is in collections throughout the United States, France, Great Britain, and Japan.
