    Edward Corrigan, the son of the late John and Catherine (nee Calvey) Corrigan, was born on 30 November 1915, in Cleveland. He was educated at Saint Catherine Elementary School, Cleveland, St. Mary's Manor and Apostolic School, South Langhorne, Pennsylvania, the Marist Novitiate, Staten Island, New York, and the Marist College, Washington, D.C. He professed his first vows in the Society of Mary on 12 September 1937. After completing his studies, he was ordained to the priesthood for the Society of Mary on 10 June 1943, in the community chapel of Marist College in Washington, D.C.

    After his ordination, he earned J.C.B. and J.C.L. degrees in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America. In 1948, Father Corrigan was appointed to the faculty of St. Mary's Manor where he served until 1960. From 1954 through 1960, he served as the superior and rector of that institution. In 1960, Father Corrigan become the provincial treasurer of the Society of Mary Province in Washington, D.C. From 1964 through 1967, Father Corrigan was the superior and rector of Marist College, Washington, D.C.

    In 1967, Father Corrigan began his parish ministry at the parish of Saint Louis, King of France in Saint Paul, Minnesota. His next assignment took him to Saint Julian Eymard Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana, where he ministered from 1968 through 1970. In that year he become pastor of Holy Name of Mary Parish, New Orleans where he served until 1976. Father Corrigan's next assignment was as parochial vicar and subsequently pastor at Saint Michael Parish, Wheeling, West Virginia, where he ministered until 1978. In the late summer of 1978, he was appointed to Saint Pius X Parish, Bedford, where he served until 1996. From 1983 through 1985, he was in Washington D.C. where he served as vicar provincial of the Marist Province.
