   Jesús 2, will have an opening cocktail reception for Guy Corriero's colorful paintings from noon to 3:00. Corriero is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and will donate 100 percent of all sales to Feed the Hungry here in SMA.

   Known for his works in both oil and watercolor, Guy Corriero paints a variety of subject matter, ranging from Southwestern subject matter to seascapes. He explains, "you never know when a great subject is going to pop up somewhere and you just have to paint it!"
   
   A plein-air painter, he has painted on Monhegan Island, Maine, every summer since 1970. Corriero returns there to paint because he feels that painting on the spot is essential to artistic development and sensitivity to the subject. "There's something that gets into the painting that is inexplicable but always recognizable. When painting in my studio I surround myself with plein aire paintings done on Monhegan with the intention of obtaining the same atmosphere and sense of immediacy of the smaller pieces."
   
   Guy attended the School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League in New York City where he studied with John Groth, Earl Mayhan and Mario Cooper. He has a B.A. from C.W. Post College and a M.A. in Humanities from Hofstra University. After teaching studio as well as academic art courses on the college level for twenty-seven years, Corriero finally retired to paint full time, but not before he was awarded The New York State Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
   
   His reputation as an excellent teacher was noticed by Educational Videos of Huntsville, Texas, where he made instructional videos entitled "Watercolor Painting Made Easy," "Drawing The Portrait," "Perspective Made Easy," "Sculpting The Head in Clay," "Sculpting The Figure in Wax and Plaster," "Pastel Painting," "Painting a Portrait in Oils," "Art Appreciation," and "Drawing Outdoors." Of his passion for plein-air painting, Corriero says, "I think it's interesting to note that all the watercolors that were chosen for the annual exhibition of The American Watercolor Society were painted from nature."
   
   His work can be found in the collections of General Electric, One Bank of Syracuse, New York, M.B.N.A. America, and The United States Marine Corps Combat Art Collection in Washington, D.C. He is a signature member of The Central New York Watercolor Society, the Knickerbocker Artists and The American Watercolor Society.
