Headed by a new Youth Coordinator, Anne Corrie, the program is offering a series of events in April in the lead up to the second annual International Youth Week, which is scheduled for May 1-7.Corrie said the activities she has planned include a creative writing and poetry night, a youth yoga program, an introduction to American Sign Language and a book club.In addition, she wants to work with local teens to produce a busy week of events during International Youth Week.While it is still in the planning stages, those events may include a street hockey game between teens and local Mounties and Parks Canada wardens, a concert at the gazebo in Grizzly Plaza, a youth employment workshop, a tea party and a youth awards ceremony."The focus of these activities is to bring youth together to celebrate and honour their accomplishments and to encourage young people to continue being productive and involved in their communities, education and personal development," she said. The dates and times for April's events are: a creative writing and poetry night at Community Connections on Tuesday April 5 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.; youth yoga nights at the space above Backroom Books on West Second Street on Wednesday April 6, 13 and 20 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; an introduction to American Sign Language at Community Connections on Tuesday April 12 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; a prep night for Youth Week at Community Connections on Tuesday April 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Youth Book Club at the Public Library on Tuesday April 26 starting at 6:30 p.m.For additional information please Anne Corrie at 837-2920, ext. 26.
