Charles Correll | The Artist Correll Glass Studio
...
Charles Correll Since the creation of his studio in 1977, Mr. Correll's work has been exhibited in shows and galleries throughout the United States. He has exhibited in major shows in New York, Baltimore, San Francisco, St. Louis, Dallas, Springfield, Valley Forge, Atlantic City and Philadelphia, and in a multitude of group and one-person shows. His work is displayed in the permanent collection of the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA.
Mr. Correll began his apprenticeship in glass in 1971 at the Jamestown Glasshouse in Virginia. While completing work on his Bachelor of Science degree at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, he began intensive training under master glass artists in production work, which was essential in developing complete control of the molten glass.
In 1974 he continued his study of the medium in California with Nourot Glass Studio. By 1977 he founded Correll Glass Studio in Massachusetts. Mr. Correll's interests include a deep study of music and rhythm which he finds beneficial in his work with glass. When asked to elaborate on the influence of music on his art, he had to say.
"Glass is a medium of fluid control. I pursue a clarity of line and simplicity of form in my work which comes only through total control of the given material. The rhythm of the dance must be accurately pursued and controlled. The work must be an expression of the artist, not the material."
