Ann Corpuz and her son, Tyler, take one of many pictures of the two of them together. The 30-year-old woman, who was killed last week, wanted to make sure that her son always had pictures to remember her.

Family of Ann Corpuz remember her as a happy person who wanted more out of life

Ann Corpuz was a devoted, hard-working mother.

Loved ones said she also lived life to its fullest and cherished each new day with her 5,-year-old son Tyler.

,Ann loved being a mom,, said Renee Hoye, one of Ann,s older sisters. ,Tyler was her world. ,Ann loved being a mom,, said Renee Hoye, one of Ann,s older sisters. ,Tyler was her world.
    ...
Ann,s dreams of building a bright future for her young son came crashing down last week after she was shot several times while sitting in her Volkswagen Jetta at a local restaurant,s drive-through window.

Ann,s estranged husband, Cornelleo Sablan Corpuz, 26, was arraigned Jan. 14 in Washington County Circuit Court on an intentional murder charge related to the shooting.

It was Beaverton,s first homicide of the year.

Police said that at about 10:50 a.m. Jan. 13, Cornelleo Corpuz stood in front of Ann,s car as it sat in the drive-through lane of the Mexicali Express restaurant on Southwest Canyon Road and fired several shots from a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun through the windshield. The shots killed Ann and wounded her co-worker, 23-year-old Sandra L. Rowley of Beaverton.
    ...
In the aftermath of Ann,s death, her family has concentrated on surrounding Tyler with love.

,We,re doing OK, but it,s been hard,, Hoye said. ,Tyler knows what happened, but not who did it. I can,t imagine how it,s going to hurt him when he finds out.,

Stories of happier times and Ann,s large collection of photographs and scrapbooks help to keep Ann,s memory alive, she added.

,Ann was a pretty happy person who liked to have fun with her friends,, Hoye recalled. ,She,s always written lots of poetry.,

,I loved her and we got along real good together,, added Ronald Kline, Ann,s father. ,She was one of those people who when you,re having a bad day, she would walk in and make you feel good.

,She always had a smile on her face, even when things were not going well.,

Above all, they said, Ann would be remembered for her dedication as a mother.

,She was so proud of Tyler and talked about him all the time,, Hoye said. ,She had pictures that he had drawn hanging up by her desk at work. Everybody who knew her knows about Tyler.,

,Ann was a good mom,, Kline added. ,Tyler just loved her and they loved each other.,

As Tyler grows older and asks about what his mother was like, the family plans to share their memories of Ann and remind him of her love.

,We,ll tell him that she was always happy, that she loved him and that people loved her,, Hoye said.

At the time of her death, Ann worked as a title clerk for the Beaverton Toyota auto dealership. She also was attending Portland Community College.

,She went back to school wanting to go into photojournalism,, Hoye said. ,But after taking some classes, she decided that she wanted to study law.,

Attending college, making new friends and finding happiness were important aspects of the life Ann was building with her son.

Ann packed up Tyler last February and moved out of the Beaverton home she shared with her husband.

She had filed for divorce in Washington County Circuit Court, but the matter had not been settled by last week.

She had also obtained a restraining order against her husband based on allegations of domestic abuse.

Ann feared for her life and tried to prepare and plan for her son, Hoye said.
    ...
At the same time, Ann remained positive and kept moving forward to better herself.

,She told us that since she had left him, he had threatened her,, Hoye said. ,She knew this would happen eventually.,

As part of her preparations, Ann gathered rolls of film filled with photos of her and Tyler together on day trips and at family gatherings.

,Ann wanted to make sure that there were lots of pictures of her,, Hoye said. ,She wanted to make sure that Tyler knew what she looked like.,

Ann recently had 42 rolls of film developed, just waiting to be picked up and added to her scrapbooks for Tyler.

,There was a box waiting for her at Costco,, Hoye said. ,I was with her when most of the pictures were taken. I,m going to miss our trips.

,I,m so proud of Ann. She was so strong. Even knowing what was going to happen, she was happy for her life and happy for her son. She worked hard trying to make life better for Tyler.,
    ...
As Ann,s family continues to heal, they cherish memories.

,I would like Ann to be remembered as a happy person who people liked to be around,, Hoye said. ,She was fun and always made you laugh.,
