Telmex Chile believes Subtel, the telecommunications regulator, needs to tailor its upcoming unbundling decree so the focus is on service quality guarantees, Telmex Chile general manager Eduardo Díaz Corona said.
"The discussion has been highly centred on costs and prices for unbundling networks, but the key element is to guarantee an excellent quality of service. It is fundamental to establish the rules of the game, because currently there are no rules," he said. -

In Brazil, where Telmex controls mobile telephone operator Claro, the data network would gradually be integrated with its mobile infrastructure to gain synergies, said Eduardo Diaz Corona, Telmex director for South America.
The Mexican company also declared its interest in buying telephone operator Embratel, as an important step in unifying its mobile, fixed, long-distance, internet and data transmission services. In Mexico, Telmex said it was market leader with 15.7 million lines, 2.3 million data connections and 1.4 million internet access accounts. On the Embratel deal, Corona said a conclusion was "still some way off", but did not rule it out.
He said the US$50 million allocated to Latin America would be spent in technological improvements to its networks and potential acquisitions.
