   RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC) announced today that David L. Cornwall will become publisher and chief executive officer of The Press-Enterprise and Maria De Varenne will become editor, effective October 1, 2002.

   Cornwall, who will report to Cass, is a 40-year Press-Enterprise veteran and has served in numerous management roles. Most recently he served as senior vice president and general manager of The Press-Enterprise since 1999, and has been responsible for sales, marketing, finance, administration, production and operations. Cornwall joined The Press-Enterprise in 1962 as a circulation station manager after three years as a carrier. He rose through the ranks of the organization and has held a variety of positions in the Advertising Department including vice president/Advertising.
   
   Cornwall, 55, earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in operations management and a minor in marketing from California State University, Fullerton.
   
   Cornwall is a past member of the Riverside Downtown Association Executive Committee, the Riverside Community College Marketing Advisory Board, and Board of Directors for the California Newspaper Advertising Executives Association. He is currently a member of the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce.
   
   De Varenne, 38, joined The Press-Enterprise in 1999 as special projects editor after working as the assistant managing editor at The San Bernardino Sun. De Varenne became managing editor in April 2000, and was promoted to executive editor in June 2001.
   
   De Varenne began her career as a general assignment reporter at The Daytona Beach News-Journal (Daytona Beach, Fla.) in 1988. She also worked as a business reporter, business editor and special projects editor for newspapers in Texas and Pennsylvania. She has won numerous regional, state and national awards.
