   Jill Cornish received her undergraduate science degree in Cell Biology and Chemistry, from University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her postgraduate education was completed at the University of Calgary, Canada, obtaining a MSc in Renal Pathology, and a PhD in Immunopathology. She returned to New Zealand in 1984 on a Canadian Fellowship investigating the immunopathology of urinary tract infections. She joined the Department of Medicine, University of Auckland at this time. In 1988, she transferred to the Endocrinology Division, where she managed the Endocrinology Laboratory and initiated her research interests in bone biology. In 1993, she became a Senior Research Fellow in the University of Auckland, and Principal Investigator of the Bone Biology Research Team. She currently leads a Cell and Molecular Bone Biology Research Group, including two senior research fellows, a molecular biologist, a scientific officer, three technicians and a PhD student. Her laboratory-based studies have addressed the actions in skeletal tissue of a variety of novel factors, including leukemia inhibitory factor, amylin, adrenomedullin, interleukin-!8, osteostatin, leptin and others.
