The original plan that had the building covered in hardy board siding would make the building unappealing and stick out from surrounding buildings, said Trustee Lee Cornett.

"The more you publicize this, the more money you'll get," Cornett said.

Cornett said that he and a partner were willing to give $10,000 to be used for any part of the project, including bricking the building.

To reduce costs, Cornett and Wilson suggested eliminating a decorative gable from the back of the building and redesigning the roof to a hip roof.

The project should make turning onto Old Ohio 32 better, said Batavia Township Trustee Lee Cornett.

"I think it's probably a good project," Cornett said.

The new 4,600-square-foot shelter is being built at 2403 Old Ohio 32, on two acres owned by Batavia Township that Trustees Lee Cornett, Deborah Clepper and Archie Wilson leased to Clermont County Community Services for $1 annually for 99 years.

Lee Cornett was elected to his second term as Trustee of Batavia Township on November 6, 2007.His term started on January 1st, 2004 and runs through December 31st, 2011.

Lee has been a resident of Batavia Township for 42 years.Born in 1942 in Blackey, Kentucky, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Eastern Kentucky University in 1968, a Masters Degree in Educational Administration, and did postgraduate work as an Educational Specialist from Miami University.His teaching career, which included schools in Kentucky and Ohio, culminated at Princeton City Schools in Evendale, Ohio.

Lee has served the community in numerous ways.He has been an active member of the community by serving in many capacities.He has served on the Townships Zoning Commission, Humane Society Board, Batavia School Board, Great Oaks Board, and the Batavia Rotary Club.He and his wife Shannon love living in Batavia.They have always enjoyed the small town atmosphere and the special charm of this historic area.

Lee and Shannon's family has grown to include two lovely grandchildren, Benjamin and Olivia, who are children of his daughter Leanne and son-in-law Steve Berke.
