He started Estate Homes 25 years ago doing small remodel jobs and was a framing and finish contractor for many years. He has been building and remodeling some of the northwest's finest homes for the last 27 years with many happy and lasting relationships with his past clients. Ken enjoys golf, travel, and his family. Ken is a very busy, energetic person who appreciates a job well done. Ken likes people and believes in treating his clients like he would like to be treated; maybe that's why so many people like to work with him.

   "U Build It consultant Ken Cornett was awakened one night by a panicky owner-builder. The concrete subcontractor was expected in the morning to pour her foundation and she had forgotten to make a "buckout," or hole in the form for the sewer line.
   
   "I told her an old builder's trick," he recalled.

   "On another job, Cornett was able to save an owner-builder about $17,000 by suggesting that he lower the level of an attached garage to do away with the need for a retaining wall. "You feel like a hero when that happens," he said.
   
   Cornett is one of several U Build It franchisees who are also general contractors. He owns Estate Homes, which specializes in high-end custom remodels.
   
   "I really sympathize with owner-builders, because I've paid a lot of 'dumb tax' myself," he said, laughing.
