  John Copeland, owner of Fox Valley Kart in Lafayette and a driver in the 1972 race, said he had a blast on the track and was flooded with memories when he took part in the alumni race last year.
  
  "When I rolled out on the track, the years just melted away," Copeland said.

  Copeland said he's glad to see that Grand Prix has stayed a strong event at Purdue.
  
  "The passing of one era of Grand Prix into a new era with a new track and the affirmation on the part of the university that this is an important part of the student experience for undergraduates, that's huge," Copeland said.
