"I am extremely proud of all my teachers and for the students who also take their learning seriously," said Beverly Copeland, principal of Ficquett Elementary School, one of the schools honored."Our mission statement at Ficquett is to empower all learners to succeed."

Copeland went on to commend her volunteers as well as teachers and staff who donate time both before and after school to help children.

"My Special Education and ELL (English Language Learners) teachers are also to be commended," she said.

Dr. Clamp mentioned that several resignations and retirements of long-term employees were on the list, including Ms. Sandra Smith who is resigning from her position as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel effective the end of the 2005-06 school year; Ms. Beverly Copeland, resigning as Principal of Ficquett Elementary School; Ms. Copeland will be replaced by Ms. Miriam Wilkins who is currently Pre-K and Grants Coordinator in the central office; Mr. Gary Mistovich is retiring as Principal of Veterans Memorial Middle School, and Ms. Georgette Izen is resigning from her central office position as Director of High Schools.
