Laurie serves as Manager of the Alaska Rainforest Campaign (ARC) and is responsible for directing the Campaign's multifaceted strategy to protect wild areas in the Tongass and Chugach National Forests.ARC, a coalition of Alaska-based and national environmental organizations, uses grassroots, media, science, legal, political, and advocacy strategies to achieve its goals.
Laurie brings to the Alaska Rainforest Campaign a diverse background and wealth of experience in issue advocacy campaigns.Prior to leading ARC, she was the Forest Outreach Director for the Alaska Coalition and was responsible for overseeing the strategy and implementation of the Coalition's grassroots program to protect the Alaskan rainforest.Additionally, during the development of the landmark National Roadless Area Conservation Rule, she worked as Outreach Director for the Heritage Forests Campaign, focusing on efforts to engage a broad range of constituencies in the most extensive public rulemaking in history.She also served as the National Field Director for the National Audubon Society.
Prior to her work in the environmental field, Laurie was Executive Director of the U.S. Committee for the United Nations Development Program, where she launched the Washington office for this non-profit organization dedicated to building awareness and support within the U.S. for UNDP,the UN's largest provider of development assistance.
