English Department head Will Cook has seen half his department turn over during the past two years.

"We lost five people last year and six this year," he said."The previous eight years we'd lose one or two a year."

Cook moved to Framingham when he started teaching there, he said, but had some thoughts about leaving if no deal was going to be struck and no raises were going to be given.

"Had it stayed at 0-0-0, I might have had to seriously consider looking elsewhere," he said.

Cook is confident the town leaders will cut a deal with the municipal unions before too long.

"Like education, the other local services have always been generously funded in this town," said Cook.
