‘‘We needed a layoff,'' point guard Omar Cook said.‘‘It will give us time to build some chemistry. We've been playing games all week, so the new guys really haven't had time to settle in.We've decided not to focus in on the negative things around us, but just go out and fun.Time off did do us some good though.''

Despite the distractions, the Patriots went 5-4 through the hectic period, including a three-game winning streak.
    ...
Cook is averaging 7.5 assists per game.Teammate Terrell McIntyre is averaging 4.9 assists per contest.

But McIntyre leads the league in assists and Cook doesn't.

That's because the 20-year-old guard has not played enough games yet to be included among the NBDL's statistical leaders.A player must play at least half his teams game to make the statistical leaderboard.

Cook has played 18 of the Patriots' 39 games. After the Patriots' Feb. 19 game against Mobile, Cook should debut as the league-leader in assists.
