    Park ranger Janet Cook said the lake is filling and skiing is permitted, but boaters should watch for debris on the lake.All three boat ramps are open.Campsites at the lake campground fill fast during holidays, Cook warned, so reservations should be made.There are a total of 104 campsites at the lake and nine of them have electrical hook-ups.

    Cook said she expects boaters and a few swimmers at the lake during Easter break.There will be no ranger guided programs, she said, but encouraged hikes along the lake area to see the wildflowers.

    The county-operated Bartlett Park, just below Lake Success will be open Monday and Thursday through Sunday.Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Federal budget woes were the reason the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers failed to follow through last year on its plan to abate mosquitoes locally by building housed for mosquito-eating bats at Lake Success near Porterville, said park ranger Janet Cook and park manager Dwayne Urquhart.

    The plan was for "cost-sharing," providing paid-for materials to Porterville High School wood-shop classes and having students crank out dozens of bat houses for Corps installation at the Success, Hensley and Kaweah reservoirs, Cook said.Members of the Little Brown Bat species can consume 650 or more mosquitoes per hour.Students could have built bat houses quickly and cheaply, said Cook and Porterville High instructor Tim Newby.
